Deruta Italy is the heart of the ceramic production with many fine producers carrying on their family trade of hand-painted majolica that became famous in medieval times. We carry products from a number of top quality producers in the area. Each piece is hand painted by skilled artists, with the entire production and firings in the kiln taking many days. Minor differences from piece to piece are natural and distinguish the work as authentic hand painted majolica. While our ceramics are made to be used, many of the pieces are also displayed as art objects in the home. Our exclusive line of porcelain is produced near Viterbo, Italy, just an hour north of Rome. The stork or "La Cigogna", is the crest of the Italian family who helped found Sopra-Sotto appears on the back of each piece.
